Attacks: Obasanjo Asks Christians, Muslims to Guard Worship Centres
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Muslims and Christians in the country to collectively protect one another against the agents of devilish violence that is threatening to tear the country apart.
Speaking in Yola, at the grand finale of the Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship rally for Governor Murtala Nyako, which was slated for January 14, Obasanjo said there was nothing religious in the senseless violence rocking the north-eastern part of the country.
He asserted that the state with its pluralistic components and diversity stood a unique chance of standing tall to checkmate the senseless violence by staying united to reject the perpetration of violence in the state.
He urged the Adamawa citizens to remain united in condemning the perpetrators of the violence and putting them to shame, saying it was a phenomenon of desperate politicians, using youths to foment trouble.
Obasanjo said the PDP had been at the helm of affairs since the commencement of democratic governance in Adamawa State in 1999 and maintained that as a party, it would do everything possible to make sure it triumphs in the Jannuary 14 election.
While thanking the people of the state for voting for the PDP both at the presidential election and the National Assembly elections as well as State Assembly poll, Obasanjo urged them to repeat the same feat by voting for Nyako in the Saturday’s election
He asserted that Nyako had performed well enough to merit another tenure to enable him consolidate what he has started.
